Frequently Asked Questions

We are located on Great Keppel Island itself, and we do not have a shop in Yeppoon. If you would like to get in touch you can:

  • Visit in person – You’ll find us in the Blue Beach Hut located just down the northern end of Fishermans’ Beach or via the sandy path from GKI Hideaway Bar and Bistro
  • call our friendly Crew on 0439 797 733
  • Via social media – facebook or instagram
  • Our contact page

Great Keppel Island is located 12km off the coast of Yeppoon.

Keppel Konnections operates from Keppel Bay Marina (6km from the town centre of Yeppoon) and have multiple departure and return times everyday.

Freedom Fast Cats operate from Pier One, John Howes Drive, and their timetable can be found on their website here.

You can participate in all our tours on a day trip and by staying on the island. All tours depart and return in time for the first and last ferry of the day. Depending on the tour, the earliest Keppel Konnections or Freedom Fast Cat ferry of the day may be required, but we’ll let you know.

Whilst we will endeavour to accomodate any guest needs, there are a couple of things to take into consideration:

  • Both ferry services unload directly onto the sand. Please call GKI Hideaway or ourselves so we can best limit the impact that has on your experience (eg. a vehicle to get yourselves and your mobility assistance to get to smooth ground)
  • One of our vessels, Keppel Adventure, is a purpose-built accessible boat designed for wheelchair & mobility challenged access. We have a beach wheelchair available (free of charge) to assist in transferring from ferries to the paths and to and from our tours.
  • If yourself or any of your group are impacted by any physical, intellectual, mental, sensory or intellectual impairments, we ask that you get in touch with us at the earliest convenience so we can ensure the best experience.

We sure do! All our courses are PADI certified by qualified instructors We offer Open Water, Advanced, and Rescue courses as well as Discovery Dives if you want to get a feel for SCUBA diving, Check out our Home page from the menu above for all upcoming courses.

If booking for 4 or more people, we can accommodate custom dates with you. Just give us a call to discuss.

There are multiple accomodation and Air BnB options on Great Keppel Island, and all (except Svendsens) are within walking distance to our dive shop, which is located just down the sandy path from the GKI Hideaway. We offer dive and snorkel packages with GKI Hideaway.

The water temperature around the Keppel’s varies from 28˚C in Summer to 18˚C in Winter but averages 22˚C all year round. We have stinger suits, 3mm and 5mm wetsuits available for hire.

Stinger suits are not compulsory, however we do have them for hire. Unlike our friends further north, stingers do not frequent these waters as often. With this in mind, there have still been confirmed irukanji stings in the Keppels in summer, so check with our staff about the current conditions so you can make an informed decision.

You can bring esky’s and your own food to the island on the ferry, however GKI Hideaway have a Bar and Bistro that is open from 07:00am til late, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and a range of snacks.
